Please join us in welcoming new member Kathryn Waldyke. Here’s what Kathryn has to say about playing the flute:
“Hello! I’m Kathryn Waldyke, and I’m new to living in Southern Illinois, teaching at SIU, and the SIU flutes, but my flute and I go way back, to 1975. I played in middle and high school and college bands and orchestras. I joined my first flute choir in college and loved it. The 5 years after college were extremely busy with more school and training, but after that I was stationed with the US Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas–home of the Coastal Bend Flute Choir, as a co-worker informed me, and I played with them for 3 years. After that, in Oregon and Illinois (Champaign) my flute forays were mostly limited to playing at church, and my group musical outlet was singing with “Amasong,” a women’s chorus in C-U. This semester I’ll be playing bass (tenor) flute, as I love the tone and of course wearing black and carrying a larger flute make one look slimmer.”
Kathryn, we’re glad to have you on board!
