Southern Illinois Flute Choir Concert

The Southern Illinois Flute Choir, under the artistic direction of Dr. Douglas Worthen and assistant conductor Rachel Alessio, will play its Fall Concert on Friday, December 8, 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main, Carbondale.  Admission is free.

The ensemble includes the complete range of flute voices:  contrabass, bass, alto, C flute, and piccolo.  Members come from throughout Southern Illinois and the SIU community to rehearse weekly, with the goal to provide a unique musical experience for the general public through semi-annual concerts.

A special feature will be the premier of the Junior Flute Choir, whose members are middle school through high school students from communities throughout Southern Illinois.

The upcoming concert works of the parent choir include “A Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky and “Symphony No. 3, mvt 2 – Andantino con moto” by Sibelius. The junior choir will play the traditional carol “I Wonder As I Wander” and “In Nomine I & II” by Thomas Tallis. As a finale, these choirs will join together to close the concert with traditional Christmas carols.
