Southern Illinois Flute Choir and Flute Studio Winter Concert

The Southern Illinois Flute Choir & SIU Flute Studio join together to play their Winter Concert on Friday, January 31st..  This evening of classical and contemporary flute music, under the artistic direction of Dr. Douglas Worthen, is offered free of charge to the public.  The Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main St., in Carbondale.
The Choir is comprised of the complete range of flute voices:  contrabass, bass, alto, C flute, and piccolo.  Choir members come from communities throughout Southern Illinois to rehearse weekly on Sunday evenings, and are joined in these rehearsals by the students of the SIU Flute Studio.
Concert selections will include “Malaguena” by Ernesto Lecuona, “Variations and Scherzo for Large Flute Ensemble” by Matt Doran, “The Hebrides Overture” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and “Concerto in C Major, Opus 7, no. 3” by Jean Marie Leclair.

UPDATE: DUE TO A WINTER STORM AND HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS, THIS CONCERT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL LATE JANUARY 2014.
The Southern Illinois Flute Choir & SIU Flute Studio join together to play their Fall Concert on Friday, December 6th.  This evening of classical and contemporary flute music, under the artistic direction of Dr. Douglas Worthen, is offered free of charge to the public.  The Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main St., in Carbondale.
